Plastic Bottle Love Bug

The Plastic Bottle Love Bug is a homemade Valentine's Day card and a cute candy holder all in one, and you only need a few simple materials to make it. You'll never want to celebrate Valentine's Day without a Plastic Bottle Love Bug ever again!

Plastic Bottle Love Bug

Materials:

  • Aleene's® Original Tacky Glue®
  • Construction paper – red
  • Single hole punch
  • Marker
  • Ruler
  • 2-liter bottle – clear
  • Chenille stem – black
  • Scissors
  • Curling ribbon – Valentine colors
  • Large googley eyes
  • Pencil

Instructions:

1. Clean and dry the 2-liter bottle. Remove label.

2. Use a marker to draw the top two-thirds of a heart in the middle of bottle, then a line starting from where heart ends around bottle to other side of heart. Cut around marker line, removing top portion of bottle and creating a heart-shaped face protruding above bottom section of bottle.

3. Use hole punch to create holes around the top of the heart to tie ribbon through for hair.

4. Cut the ribbon into 12” sections and feed them through the holes, then tie in place. Have an adult help curl the ribbon with the scissors.

5. Use Original Tacky Glue to glue googly eyes on top portion of heart face as shown.

6. Cut an approximately 3” section of black chenille stem and curve upward into a smile then glue under eyes to create mouth.

7. Use pencil to create an “I,” a heart and a “U” on red construction paper then cut out. Glue on bottle under mouth as shown. Let dry overnight.

8. Fill with candy or Valentine cards and enjoy!
