Materials List

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • Orange paint
  • White paint
  • Green paint
  • Brown paint
  • A paintbrush
  • Black sharpie

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt and water. It will come together to form a dough — remove it from the bowl and knead it until it is smooth.

  2. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin, then press your child’s hand onto the dough to form the handprint.

  3. Use a bowl or circle cookie cutter to cut around the handprint to form the body of the pumpkin. Shape the stem and a vine from the remaining salt dough.

  4. Set in a dry area and allow to air dry for 48-72 hours.

  5. Once the dough is dry, it’s time to paint your pumpkin! We added some white paint into the orange paint and colored in the handprint so that it would be lighter than the rest of the pumpkin.
