Great idea to teach symmetry and be artsy and creative too! Looking at an actual Monarch butterfly and copying it into a simpler design is a great way to teach visual perception, dimension and proportion and you can keep it very simple for the youngsters, and modify it to more realistic design for older kids. Great school project too!

This is a beautiful project to decorate walls in a bedroom. Colorful and fun. Need to do this with my daughter.
