Egg Ornament

"Easter is such a fun time of year and this Egg Ornament is the perfect way to get your family in the holiday spirit! They are going to love having a decoration that they made displayed in their own home. Seasonal crafts are a favorite in my house so this Egg Ornament craft was such a hit! My kids loved crafting together and making something that they could use to decorate their room in the end. "

Materials List

  • Colored felt fabrics
  • Pencil – to trace the template
  • Matching threads
  • Cotton or scrap felt
  • Needle
  • A pair of scissors

Instructions

  1. Select a light colored felt for the egg bases and select bright and fun colored felt fabrics for the patterns. Trace and cut out the template patterns from the felt fabrics.

  2. Take any of the egg base cutouts and place a pattern cutout on it; it’s better to start from a side (either top or bottom). We’re starting from the bottom side. Prepare a needle with matching threads.

  3. Stitch the pattern with the egg base with blanket stitches along the sides. Then, place the next patterns and prepare needle with matching thread. Keep the patterns close to the previous pattern.

  4. Stitch the dot pattern on the base with a cross-stitch. Place the next pattern cutout next to the dots.

  5. Stitch the zigzag pattern cutouts on the base using blanket stitches as well.

  6. Stitch another round of dots to the base.

  7. Stitch the last round and secure the thread on the back side of the base. Take the other egg base.

  8. Place the patterned egg base on the plain egg base and prepare needle with matching thread to stitch around the sides of the egg bases.

  9. Stitch the sides of the egg bases by working flat blanket stitches. For stuffing, you can use cotton or scrap felt; we’re using scrap felt pieces.

  10. Keep a small open end to stuff the scrap felt. Stuff the felt egg until it looks nice and fluffy.

  11. Once you’re done stuffing, close the open end to secure the stuffing. Tie a knot or two and then cut off extra thread. Attach a ribbon loop on the backside of the felt egg to complete the ornament.
