Popsicle Stick Monster Men

By: Amanda Formaro for AllFreeKidsCrafts

Nothing is better than a craft for kids that can be made from items you already have on hand. Don't worry about running to the store for the Popsicle Stick Monster Men because they can be made from popsicle sticks and paint. Halloween crafts for kids can be spooky, but they can also be scarily fun. This fun and easy craft can be enjoyed by kids of all ages, as older kids can make their monsters more detailed. For younger kids, fasten multiple popsicle sticks together for a larger drawing area.

Materials:

  • 4 jumbo craft sticks
  • Toothpick
  • Black fine tip marker
  • Paintbrushes
  • Craft paint: red, orange, purple, yellow, light green, green, black, white

Instructions:

  1. Paint the craft sticks, one each in red, orange, purple, and yellow.

  2. Use the handle end of a large paintbrush dipped in light green paint to add large spots to the orange stick. Use a medium paintbrush to add smaller dots.

  3. Use a liner brush to add green stripes to the yellow stick.

  4. Use circular motion (as if you were drawing a circle with a crayon) with a large paintbrush handle to add the big eye to the purple stick. Depending on the size of the eyes that you want, use different sized paintbrushes.

  5. For the large eye on the purple stick, add a dot of green over the dry white paint and allow the green to dry. When dry, add a smaller dot of black.

  6. You can draw the mouths with a black marker and use a white paint pen, if you have one, to color in the teeth. We used a toothpick dipped in white paint.

  7. To add other details such as eyebrows use a fine point black marker. Hint: After making the teeth white, go over the outlines again with a black marker.

  8. Use a toothpick dipped in black paint to add the black pupils of the eyes. For larger pupils, use the handle of a paintbrush.

I am doing this assignment with my students now and they love it. Of course I made modifications like using markers instead of paint and wiggly eyes, which students love! It was cheap, easy and my students literally screamed with joy when I showed them what we were making. Thank you, K-5th Teacher

Absolutely adorable! Thank you so much for sharing. I especially love the "Hulk" one haha. - Chelsea, Editor
