Magical Tie-Dye Mason Jars

As if mason jar crafts aren't cool enough already, Magical Tie-Dye Mason Jars take everything up a notch. These awesomely vibrant containers are perfect crafts for teenagers to give as gifts, use as organizers, or display as brag-worthy decor. No doubt you will get compliments from every single admirer because these mason jar ideas are original and fun. The best part about them is that there are no rules. Use whichever colors inspire you in whatever design fits your fancy. The result will be truly unique.

Materials:

  • Dinnerware Bisque Designs- Mason Jar 3.25” x 3.25” x 5.25” (31220)         
  • Signature Brushes - SB 806 No. 6 Round, SB 807 No. 6 Fan Glaze, SB 811 No. 8 Round, SB 812 No. 10 Round         
  • Duncan® Envision® Glazes - 1011 Royal Purple, 1032 Miami Pink, 1058 Clover, 1059 Light Pink, 1634 Royal Blue,1105 Federal Blue, 1201 Neon Yellow, 1206 Neon Red
  • Duncan® Pure Brilliance® Clear Glaze
  • Potter’s sponge
  • Paper towel
  • Clay carbon paper
  • Foil or foam plate for palette
  • Pencil
  • Container for water
     

Instructions:

1. Wipe mason jar with damp sponge to remove any bisque dust.

2. Using fan glaze brush, brush 2 coats of Pure Brilliance Clear Glaze inside jars and on bottom. Let dry.

3. Lightly with pencil freehand pattern of choice on jar(s). Or, you may transfer design if desired using the clay carbon paper.

4. To pattern(s) of choice, brush on one coat of colors as desired. Let dry.

5. Repeat with a second coat of all colors. Let dry.

6. On the third coat for the swirl and bulls eye jars, use smaller brush and make short, spikey lines running into the adjoining color to simulate tie dye blending into the next color. Let dry.

7. For the ombré jar, use the Fan Glaze brush to blend in the third coat of the colors. Let dry.

8. Stilt jars in kiln and fire to cone 06.
