Materials List

  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • One cup cut from an empty egg carton tray
  • A5-sized piece of yellow crepe paper
  • Five medium-sized black feathers
  • Sheet from an old calendar with yellow pictures
  • Pair of 5mm googly eyes
  • Small piece of orange felt for the eyebrows
  • Small piece of orange cardstock for the beak
  • Yellow acrylic paint
  • Quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)

Instructions

  1. Cut the egg cup smaller so that it will fit on top of the toilet paper roll. Glue it in place and allow to dry.

  2. Paint the toilet roll with the yellow paint and allow to dry.

  3. Cut small pieces from the yellow crepe paper and glue them to the egg cup to cover it.

  4. This step needs to be done by an adult: Use the needle to make two holes through the middle of the egg cup.

  5. Use two feathers. Apply glue to the bottom of each feather and push it into one of the premade holes to add the head feathers.

  6. Draw a half-circle on the calendar sheet and cut it out. Glue it to the back of the toilet roll to make the tail section. (This step may require some assistance from an adult.)

  7. Glue three feathers to the bottom of the tail section to add the tail feathers.

  8. Cut two wings from the calendar sheet. Glue crepe paper on both sides of each wing, allow to dry, and cut them out again. Glue the wings to the toilet roll.

  9. Glue the two wiggle eyes in place.

  10. Cut two small eyebrows from the orange felt and glue them in place.

  11. Fold the orange cardstock, cut a beak on the fold, and glue it below the eyes.
